Fin Robertson desperate to take over from Rangers-bound Lyall Cameron (2)

Fin Robertson wants to show he can be the man to fill the void left by Lyall Cameron’s pending departure. The pair came through the academy ranks together but the former will be looking to pick up the baton when his teammate moves on to Rangers this summer. The 22-year-old, who recently signed a new deal, made his 100th Dundee appearance last weekend and wants to make a first-team shirt his own as he looks to double that tally. Robertson is again likely to start with Cameron out injured when St Mirren come calling this weekend. The midfielder acknowledged: “That's up to me or whoever else comes in to take that on their own shoulders. “That’s ultimately what you want to do. “It's a privilege to be under pressure because it means you're in somewhere someone else wants to be in. So it's important for me to do that.” Robertson burst through the ranks as a 17-year-old but has had to remain patient, especially in the Premiership and also had a loan out at Cove Rangers. His wicked set pieces and delivery in recent months have been a big asset to Tony Dochery’s side and now he wants the chance to show that on a consistent basis, while also bringing a finished product. He claimed: “I’ve enjoyed getting assists and stuff. “Being in charge of the set plays, I can have an impact on goals. But sometimes you need to score more. “I had one on Saturday that got disallowed - I think I've hit everywhere, bar the back of the net. Hopefully that changes soon.” Robertson is a life-long Dundee fan and you can see what it means to reach this landmark. “I am really proud to have played 100 games for Dundee,” the midfielder confirmed. “If you had told me I would do that when I made my debut, I wouldn’t have believed you. So I am delighted to do it. “It just feels like yesterday that I played against St Mirren on the last day of the season.” The game was at the end of the 2019 season against St Mirren. On his debut, he recalled: “I'd just left school a few weeks before, so I trained with the first team for a week when Jim McIntyre got sacked and then played on Saturday. “James McPake told me on Friday morning that I was going to start, and I was a bit surprised, to say the least, but I was excited. “Surprisingly, I was able to sleep the night before, but I had told my dad and I don't think he could sleep! “I wasn’t allowed to tell my pals I was playing but my family were there. “Josh came on and did well.” It will be St Mirren who provides the opposition for what he hopes will be the first step towards another ton of Dark Blue appearances. He is looking for a win after the heartbreak of a late collapse against Rangers. He said: “I hope so but I just look to the next game and whatever comes in the future comes. “It is just important that we finish the season strongly - that’s the most important thing. “It is a big one on Saturday. Even though we lost against Rangers, we are playing and performing well. We just need to stop conceding goals." Dundee welcome back the likes of Clark Robertson, Seb Palmer-Houlden and Antonio Portales but Scott Fraser and Cameron miss out.
